Hawaii Floral

Original painting is an Acrylic on 9X12 canvas (2015)

Formal Name: Costus Speciosus – Spiral Ginger – Crepe Ginger

Also known as an “antidiabetic plant.” It seems to grow in many places in Hawaii although it is becoming endangered. For more information on the medicinal use, feel free to do some online research. Prints and blank greeting cards are available by contacting Peter via Email.

North Shore, Hawaii

This scene was inspired by the rough waves during a passing hurricane while on a trip to the North Shore (Kalahopele Gulch) in 2012. I wanted to try out my oil paints after many years of only using acrylic. This is a small painting with oils on art board (2013). The original is 5’X7”; prints and Blank Greeting Cards are available upon request.

Yellow Plumeria

Original painting is an Acrylic on 9X12 canvas board (2015)
Another variety of Plumeria from Hawaii.

I enjoy painting the flowers in acrylic because it dries quickly and it is easy to put on layers of paint to get a flower to look realistic.

Blue Hawaii

This scene is from the eastern coast of Oahu, Hawaii. Anyone who has traveled to this scene knows that the view is close to the famous “Blow Hole.” This is where the waves crash into the shore and into pockets of lava rock. The holes in the rock create a rush of air and water to form a geyser condition. Around the corner is Sandy Beach. The original was done with Acrylic on Canvas 16X20 (2013). Prints and Blank Greeting Cards are available.

Hanging Heliconia

This is one of the many varieties of Heliconia available in tropical areas. This particular scene was from a plant hanging in Waikiki area. The original was done in Oils on Canvas 12”X24” (2013). Artist’s Collection. No prints available. Commissions accepted.

Three Dragons

Three Dragons was inspired by a walk on Waikiki. The Dragon Boats were used for tourists to race up and down Waikiki Beach. Seeing them sitting on the beach in full color against the Hawaiian sky was breathtaking. The original was done in Acrylic on canvas 24”X36”(2013). Prints and Blank Greeting Cards are available upon request.

Waimea Gardens

This scene is on the path to Waimea Falls on Oahu, Hawaii. Specifically Kaiwiko ele Stream. I highly recommend visiting the park if you travel there. I found the variety of vegetation in this botanical garden to be fascinating; particularly the Fan Palms. The original was done with Watercolor and Acrylic on Watercolor paper 14”X24” (2013). Prints and Blank Greeting Cards are available upon request.

Saint Joachim, Catholic Church

Bird of Paradise

Original Painting is an Acrylic on 9X12 canvas board (2015).

The subject was inspired by the many Bird of Paradise plants that are throughout the islands.
This particular picture had multiple flowers coming out of the stem system.
